K9 Nose Work ®

K9 Nose Work® is the fun search and scenting activity for virtually all dogs and people. This easy to learn activity and sport builds confidence and focus in many dogs, and provides a safe way to keep dogs fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise.

Whether you want to compete in Nose Work events or just have FUN with your dog – we have the classes for you!

Introduction to K9 Nose Work ®

All dogs will start in Introduction to K9 Nose Work ®.  In this class your dog will be encouraged to use his nose to hunt for a primary reward .  Dogs will learn to search boxes and various containers scattered throughout a search area. Searches will become more difficult, and they will learn to solve puzzles to get to the source of the odor. Dogs will become more confident in doing this and will have FUN!  Handlers learn to read their dog and see what they look like when they've caught odor. This class is open to all dogs.  Please contact your instructor before class if your dog needs extra space.

Prerequisite: Dog should be comfortable waiting in a crate between turns and should be housetrained

K9 Nose Work® for the Family Dog

K9 Nose Work® is the fun search and scenting activity for virtually all dogs and people, including your family pet! This easy to learn activity builds confidence and focus in many dogs, and provides a safe way to keep dogs fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise - plus it's easy to practice at home.

What makes this class unique? It's geared towards your whole family! While all of our classes are family friendly, we understand that sometimes moms and dads don’t feel comfortable bringing their children to class. In this class, we encourage the whole family to attend.  An adult must be in charge of getting the dog to and from the search area, but kids can come out into the search area, watch the dogs search and help with setting up the searches so that they know how to play the game at home.

This family-friendly activity is a great way to encourage your dog to use his natural sniffing abilities, build your bond with your pup, and give him an outlet for his energy. Dogs will work more difficult puzzles as class progresses and become more confident and have FUN! This class is excellent for all types of dogs, from energetic/overexcited to nervous/shy dogs and is also great for dogs that don’t do well in a regular class setting. Please contact your instructor before class if your dog needs extra space. All dogs work alone with their handler and are required to be crated or confined in their vehicle (weather depending).

K9 Nose Work ® for Reactive Dogs

Do you want to get your dog involved in a sport or do something outside of your home - but worried about his or her reactivity in a group setting? This class will be smaller in size to make sure reactive dogs have space. You'll be in a class with other owners who understand your struggles. And, your dog will get the benefits of K9 Nose Work! We will also talk about management strategies for reactivity and touch on some of the principles behind behavior modification for reactivity.

K9 Nose Work
® has many benefits for all dogs - but especially helps those struggling with reactivity. Those benefits include increased confidence, more resilience, better problem solving skills, physical and mental exercise, and a stronger bond between dog and handler.

Private Nose Work Lesson – Single

Attending regular Nose Work classes is important if you would like a well-rounded sniffer.  However, if there is something that isn’t being covered in class, a private lesson is the perfect way to concentrate on specific issues; for example, box crushing or creating a stronger indication.  A private lesson is also a great way to get some trial specific practice in.  If your dog is not appropriate for class, a private lesson may work out better for your dog.

These lessons last 30 minutes.

Prerequisite: None

Max. Number of Dogs: 1

Cost: $75 or package credit

What students are saying:

I'd like to let you know, every time after I listen to your input, how much I want to go out and do more nose work right away!  It dawned on me, you are not only providing insights, you also allow me to share nose work with someone who understands the game.

Thank you for the NW2 Trial Prep lessons.  You gave me a lot of ideas on what to practice, and I feel make the thought of going to NW2 trial less scary!
